Camps

Medical and Family Camps

Camp Joy partners with organizations and hospitals to help children and their families manage a medical condition/illness through summer camp and family camp experiences.  Some of the benefits of these camps include:

Patient Self-Care: Enhances the self-care and self-sufficiency of children/families managing a chronic illness/condition.
Education: Educates children/families about the illness in a non-medical setting.
Relationship Building:
Provides an opportunity for children/families to learn and bond with others managing a similar condition.
Respite:
Provides a time of relief for family members.
Self-awareness:
Builds self-esteem and enhances goal-setting and problem-solving skills.
Fun!:
Provides wholesome outdoor recreation, creative, arts and adventure education.

2008 Schedule

MDA Summer Camp
MDA has built bridges and knocked down barriers for youngsters with neuromuscular diseases by providing an unforgettable week at MDA summer camp.  Sponsored by Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Ages 6-21 welcome.

Camp program for youth with heart conditions, sponsored by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Weekend camp experience for children with and families of children with heart conditions, sponsored by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Camp Njoyitall
Designed for youth with Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, sponsored by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Teen Leadership Weekend
A weekend for teens to learn and practice leadership skills, sponsored by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Tri-state Bleeding Disorders Family Camp
Weekend camp experience for children with and families of children with bleeding disorders, sponsored by Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Arthritis Foundation Fall Family Camp
Weekend camp experience for children with and families of children with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation Ohio River Valley Chapter.

October 4-5, 2008

Amputee Coalition of America Youth Camp
Camp provides youth with limb loss and limb differences (ages 10 to 16) educational outings, team-building exercises, sports and opportunities to learn from peers and adult amputee mentors, sponsored by the Amputee Coalition of America.
July 19-24, 2008

OSU Medical Center Burn Survivors Family Camp
Weekend camp experience for families of Burn Survivors, sponsored by OSU Medical Center.
