LEADER-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
Leader-in-Training (LIT) will be held from July 16-25,
2008. The program is for teens who are between the ages of 15-16 and is
limited to approximately 15 participants. Camp Joy’s LIT program
is designed for youth who are interested in developing leadership skills
that they can use throughout their lives to help others and themselves.
The first part of the program is designed to help teens focus on their
own leadership skills and become a cohesive team. Over the weekend the
group will venture to Zaleski State Park, near Athens, Ohio for a
backpacking trip to reflect on their leadership learning and prepare for
the second part of the program. The teens then partner with a designated
counselor mentor and have the opportunity to work directly with the kids
(ages 7-12) in main camp and also have time with the LIT team.
During an intense 10-day experience, LITs will develop
leadership skills through:
• Community service projects
• Off-site adventure trips (such as biking or canoeing)
• Backpacking weekend trip to Zaleski State Park
• High ropes courses
• Mentor relationships with main camp cabin counselors
• Leading activities for younger campers
• Cooking many of their own meals
• Living in primitive shelters (the rustic shelters are removed from
main camp and do not have running water or electricity)
This program is truly designed for teens who are ready
to challenge themselves in the outdoors, gain experience working with
peers as a team, and with younger kids! The cost for this intense 10-day
program is $500. However, financial aid is available for those who
qualify.
